  • Discontinuation of Fallout: New Vegas support

Future vaultmp releases will no longer support Fallout: New Vegas. I decided to streamline my work on vaultmp. Maintaining compatibility with both games is quite an amount of extra work I had to do in the past. As you may know, I'm working pretty much alone on this project (except for: GUI and databases by roby65).

I'll commit a git patch which will contain all stuff necessary to re-introduce New Vegas support (if somebody else wants to continue it)

That's a bad news, but... What must be done, must be done.

I think it's great news, more quality than quantity.

Thats a good choice, i guess its better to concentrate on the Base. FalloutNV is just a Plus.

Well that sucks, I would have much rather FO3 be dropped than NV as I never enjoyed FO3 nearly as much as NV, but I'm not the dev so that's not my choice to make, oh well, multiplayer FO3 is better than no multiplayer Fallout at all.

I disagree, the story from Fallout 3 is far better and more Fallout then NV, where is the story actually about it's some guy that want to take revenge on a guy that shot him in the head he get a vault suit what makes him the hero. The fack.. The only reason that most people find it a better game is because the world is smaller and because of that the world got more action and more details.. But in a real wasteland there are not a lot of details or life so that makes NV unrealistic and a lesser game in the fallout genre and the DLCs in Fallout 3 are also more interesting and bigger in story and world space.

Well, I agree that the Fallout 3 story was more interesting then New Vegas. I always felt that the New Vegas area was much better suited for Multiplayer. As I went around certain areas, I felt like it should be filled with other players and the like. Though I suppose that'd only be me. This upsets me somewhat, but I supposed it'd get it out faster.

EDIT: Also I did like the other armor and weapons it added better and the iron sights... (I know that there is a iron sight mod, but it doesn't play well with majority of other mods involving weapons.) Story really shouldn't factor into VaultMP unless you're only looking at the Campaign co-op, and maybe Role playing involving the stories or somesuch.

There's mainly three reasons why I chose Fallout 3:

      1) vaultmp originally started as a Fallout 3 mod (New Vegas wasn't even released at that point)
      2) Fallout 3 is known to work better with vaultmp. This is probably because I did all of my development in Fallout 3, then just wrote ports for New Vegas without a lot of testing
      3) I personally like Fallout 3 more than New Vegas

Fallout: New Vegas is an awesome game just as Fallout 3. I know it is even more "Fallout" (closer to Fallout 1 and Fallout 2) than Fallout 3 is, but for the reasons above I chose Fallout 3 for further development.

If anyone wants to continue work on New Vegas support there is nothing which would prevent that. In fact, it would be appreciated.

I understood that that already (personal favorite aside) that it all would be done faster this way, I do hope that someone does pick it up and gets it working. Though I do wonder, would you do it yourself when you're finished putting VaultMP together, or move onto other projects afterwards?

That largely depends on if there will be any other project I'd be willing to work on after vaultmp

Hmm, I just realized, Oblivion support got removed as well, does that mean that if someone takes it on they can bring back Oblivion support later on? I suppose it would need it's own git patch aswell. Or would the older engine and such be out of reach for that?

Yes this is possible. Fallout 3 uses a version of the same Gamebryo engine as Oblivion so no.

May I make suggestion? Now, I don't know about how this works mechanically, but couldn't you just create a Fallout 3 version, and then, after creating a finalized version, modifying it for New Vegas?

I don't know, to me it sound reasonable, but I don't really know the first thing about how this mod works.

I think a "finalized version" is never going to come, as things keep expanding. It'll simply get bigger and better, without a real end to it. It's how it has been with SA:MP for the past 7 years and they are still going, coming up with features I wouldn't even have dreamt about a couple of years ago. That's what makes it this great and that's what makes SA:MP still populair, even after all these years.
I am sure VTMP has such a future infront of it, keeping up the great work. Fallout 3 remains the better game for me, compared to New Vegas, so I am not complaining. But before you know it, you have so much freedom in creating your own game mode, you are not even going to mind the difference!

I know you don't have to support NV but can you atleast make a downlaod of the previous version?

Hi, I have been following this mod time ago, its a sad new for me and my friends that vaul-tec mp is not longer in dev, so we woud like to work on it as an alternative dev team, or work with who is in charge of its development, as we like some of the cualitys of NV, also is the only fallout that we have, its places woud be more fun with more people and adding some extra difficult, so in the mean time we will test the last release for fallout 3, while we wait for your answer, the best of luck foxtacles. Greetings from my team we apreciate your work.
