Thread: Interested in scripting

Hello, I am just new to VaultMP and played Fallout:New Vegas I pretty much enjoy it and I loved the idea of creating a multiplayer. I am of course wanting to be a developer as though I am semi-experienced in php and experienced with html/css.

I am hoping to become a developer using the language C++ to contribute to the community weather it's plugins or the actual server executable.

I am not use to the C++ environment and would love to have suggestions and support onto learning.
I of course need to know good tutorials that I can understand well and a editor y'all use or recommend a good editor that will help me along well.

If you hope to get lessons from Recycler the change is not big.

The best start is google ofcourse https://www.cprogramming.com/ this is a good website. It takes years to learn and i hope you got a good math knowledge or it will be really hard i also recommend you to first learn more basic laung before you start with C++ like Java(for game platform)

I have no idea what sort of level you are at, so I'll just post a few general comments about learning programming. Feel free to ignore every I say if I'm aiming too low

There's no real "best" way to learn programming. I'd suggest trying out whatever you can find (online tutorials, books, videos, editing other people's code, there's loads of different ways). Find what you like, and do it. And practise *a lot*. I can't stress this enough for concepts that C++ has that you haven't come across before.

Personally I followed this tutorial and downloaded a book on C++ which had some more advanced stuff in it. I can't remember the book, but I can link you to the site.

If you are interested in helping with VMP especially, you could have a look at the Fallout or Elder Scrolls modding tools, the GECK and TESCS (for Oblivion, for Skyrim it became the TESCK) respectively. While you don't need to know much at all about modding, it's a good idea to have a rough idea how stuff works internally for the games. Nothing vital, but it could help.

Also, I use CodeBlocks for writing C++. I know a lot of people that like Visual Studio for it, but I'm not a big fan. Try them, see for yourself.

PAWN is nothing like C++, thinking it of C++ will simply get you no-where. It's a embed of C++ and managed differently (if we're still using PAWN)
